Mildred is not a name
Milada Chmelařová, née Midred Tománek, was born on August 14, 1919 in Chicago, USA. Her parents and older brothers left here from what was then Austria-Hungary in 1913. In America, Midred and her brothers went to Sokol. Unfortunately, her brother Arnošt suffered serious injuries there and died at the age of 21. During the great economic crisis of the early 1930s, the family decided to return. They settled in Ostrava, where my father came from. The teacher at the school changed Midred’s name to Milada. The witness graduated from a vocational school for women’s professions and worked in an accounting firm. She married and had two children. At the time of the recording of the interview (2019), the witness Milada Chmelařová was living in Most.
