  • "My grandfather was progressive in his music in terms of listening. He was very fond of good jazz, he was picky, he wouldn't just play something. He bought vinyl records, he and my grandmother had a lot of them, I was always interested in that. That was common then, it's common now. He had a very good discography and a lot of progressive music. Not just in the jazz stuff, but maybe in pop and he had Jackson and stuff that was popular at the time and it wasn't bad. And at the same time, he had classics, very good classics, he had folk stuff in there, very interesting stuff that's from the world, African rhythms even back then or Amazonian rainforest."

  • "What I liked about it was that he didn't push me in any way. He asked me if I wanted to go fishing with him, and of course I said yes because I was interested. The dough always smelled of that vanilla, the way it was made. And just the way it smelled, I thought it was great, it must be something great to go fishing. So that's the first time I went fishing with him, he took me to Kristýna, I think, that time. We went there early in the morning and the night before we made the dough. And it smelled so good to me that I just gasped. I didn't like it very much, of course, it just smells. I didn't feel like he was teaching me anything, it was more like I was watching what he was doing. He was commenting that now we have to catch a fish like this, so we're going to put this weight in, float, line. He had a few different rods, he had some huge catfish rods in there when they used to go to the Dyje."

Petr Hubáček was born on 24th June in Liberec. His father, Ivan Hubáček, was a technician and later a businessman, while his mother, Ivana Hubáčková, whose maiden name was Vagnerová, worked in culture, in the media, ran a parliamentary office and was a teacher. Petr Hubáček’s grandfather was the architect Karel Hubáček, who designed the building of the century, a mountain hotel with a transmitter on Ještěd, for which he received the prestigious Perret Architecture Award in 1969. In his childhood, he used to go on trips and holidays with both grandparents. He also spent a lot of time fishing with his grandfather. He enjoyed playing the piano and listening to music with him. Petr Hubáček graduated from the Business Academy in Liberec and later from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen as a teacher for secondary schools - double major in psychology and music education. As part of the European Erasmus programme, he travelled to Oulu, Finland for a number of months before graduation, where he not only studied but also taught school children privately. He has played and performs in a number of bands in Liberec. After graduation he started working in a company dealing with instrumental ophthalmology. After 15 years he left the company and founded his own company with the same focus. In 2014, he co-founded the association Let’s Save the Warsaw Cinema, which aims to restore the legendary Liberec biograph more than 100 years old. Together with his entire family, he took care of Karel Hubáček, who fell ill with Alzheimer’s disease, from which he died in 2011. Now he is caring for the legacy of his famous grandfather.
