My parents woke me up at night, saying if the Gestapo arrive I would have to take care of my younger siblings
Jarmila Koutná, née Francová, was born in Olomouc on 8 November 1931 as the oldest of four children to parents Ferdinand and Marie. Three years later, the family bought a house on the edge of the Dubany community (currently a neighbourhood of Vrbátky) and moved in. In the house, the family would hide guerrillas from the Yermak-Volkov group during World War II. Aged just thirteen, Jarmila was their contact. After the war, Jarmila graduated from a business academy in Prostějov and then worked as an accountant with several companies. In 2018, she and her husband were still living in the house where her family used to risk their lives hiding guerrillas during World War II.
