Soldiers were being dropped off at the parish house by the hundreds
Rozalia Kučerová was born on 23 December 1936 in Svodín, a village north of Budapest. From the end of 1944 to March 1945, the area was the scene of fighting between the Soviet and German armies. After the communists took power, her father Andrej Kun lost his business and after refusing to join an agricultural cooperative farm (JZD), he was arrested and imprisoned for seven years. Rozalia, her mother Terezia and brothers Rudolf and Viliam were evicted first from the district, then from Slovakia. Neither Rozalia nor her brothers were admitted to any school, nor could she find a job. She was helped by a friend who was well acquainted with the then minister of education. After August 1968, her brothers emigrated to the West at their father’s request. Rozalia stayed in the country, distributing anti-communist pamphlets and persuading the occupying troops to leave. At the time of recording (2024) she was living in a home for the elderly in Zruč nad Sázavou.
