When he was arrested, I refused to learn German
Věra Kyjovská, née Reitmajerová, was born on March 20, 1934 in Prague. During the war, her uncle Jaroslav Reitmajer was arrested for publicly criticizing the Nazis and someone betraying him. He was imprisoned in Petschk’s palace and in Mauthausen, where he died at the age of 19. Věra experienced the Prague Uprising in the streets, as a ten-year-old girl she experienced fighting in the streets. After the war with her parents, she went to the border with the village of Filipov in the Šluknov foothills. She became a nurse, worked for the Red Cross and later worked as an office secretary.
