I’ll live with a feeling of guilt until the end of my life
Bohumil Řeřicha was born on 22 December 1944 in Cvrčovice near Kladno. He lived his whole life in northern Bohemia, he graduated from secondary school of agriculture in Kadaň and worked in agriculture until 2006. After he moved out of urban environments into the village of Lubenec in 1978, he awoke in himself a strong sense of solidarity. Bohumil Řeřicha wanted to help the needy, for that reason he accepted an offer to join the Communist Party in 1980. In the 1980s he held the post of chairman of the sports club Spartak Lubenec. In 1990 he relinquished his party membership and continued to participate in local affairs as an independent. Bohumil Řeřicha now considers his membership in the Communist Party as a failure of both intellect and character, and he issues a public apology to victims of the regime for his membership in the party. In 1993 he joined the Circle of Friends of Czech-German Understanding, and he helped organise the construction of a memorial to the massacre of Sudeten Germans in Postoloprty.
