Mojmír Božík

* 1962

  • „I remember that well, because as children we were by the road. Even one of my friends, when we grew up together, counted the transports, how many cars passed by. I vividly remember that. We had a railway nearby, where even tanks used to go for several days, it is alive in the memory.“

  • „I remember it quite vividly, it was in Hradec Králové, where we won a bronze, actually a silver medal and we were a strong team, they gave me a foundation there too, those were also the beginnings of my serious representation, where we moved up a category above to the Czechoslovak under-20 national team. We were also among the best in world hockey.“

  • „But that team was built for a long time, we had to go to war, we had to change for two generations during the war, and when we returned in 1984 – 1985, it graduated, where we met together, the title was won, and since then we played at the top of the federal league , where we then won the second title. That was a milestone in Košice hockey, which then built the trend and history at such a level that it was expected from Košice that they would play at the top. And we succeeded – that's how they started in the 80s, but it changed over the years and actually Košice is still the leader in that hockey, then in Czechoslovakia, later in Slovakia. So that tradition actually continues.“

  • „It affected me in a positive sense, because we, as players of the national team, had some criteria – the boys could go to play in the West, which everyone wanted. But you had to make a hundred starts for the national team, have medals from the World Championships and be 30 years old. I met everything except my age, and the revolution made it possible for me to open up travel and I could go on foreign assignments without emigrating.“

I did not consider the draft to Canada – I did not want to sacrifice my family for the sake of emigration
