Stanislav Řídký

* 1930

  • "It was not easy, we had to fight to get the property back; the town owned it and managed the Sokolovna at the time. However, once they built a sports hall at the stadium, the Sokolovna was abandoned, nobody cared for it and it decayed. The last time the town organised a major event there was back in 1983." - "They didn't want to return the building to you even though they didn't maintain it?" - "They didn't want to return the building to us. I, brother Polívka and my mother [Marie Řídká] testified in court that the building belonged solely to Sokol."

  • "We slept at the station and hardly met the garrison crew. We were 'office rats', as they say, sitting at the teletype all day and constantly relaying messages between the military top brass. We only got to the garrison on Saturdays or Sundays when we had a day off. We couldn't do it in Libavá at all because there was only that one barracks. There was only the command building and then one building where the accommodation was, and there were about sixty [soldiers] sleeping there. And that was it. That was a miserable life. All we could do was listen to the radio."

  • "My mum was really into it. She had a Sokol costume and was an enthusiastic Sokol girl. When the Sokol was closed, she brought her love of the Sokol to Osvětová beseda, which I also led in Slatiňany. When I started to work, the Osvětová beseda concept was being introduced. Two or three companies joined forces and organised various events. That's what we did too. We then secretly brought the Sokol ideas to Osvětová beseda where we were a great team."
