The following text is not a historical study. It is a retelling of the witness’s life story based on the memories recorded in the interview. The story was processed by external collaborators of the Memory of Nations. In some cases, the short biography draws on documents made available by the Security Forces Archives, State District Archives, National Archives, or other institutions. These are used merely to complement the witness’s testimony. The referenced pages of such files are saved in the Documents section.

Otto Šplíchal (* 1929)

Mysleli jsme, že svoboda bude na furt

  • narodil se 4. října 1929 v Plzni

  • zažil příchod Němců do Plzně, transporty Židů, několik náletů

  • ve 14 letech začal studovat ve Zlíně na Baťově škole a poté pokračoval ve studiu na obchodní akademii

  • na vysoké škole v Praze, kde studoval ekonomii, poznal svou ženu, se kterou se v roce 1955 oženil

  • pracoval jako vychovatel na Baťově škole do doby, než musel nastoupit k pomocným technickým praporům

  • otec překladatelky a hungaristky Dany Gálové, která v roce 2015 podlehla zákeřné nemoci ALS (amyotrofická laterální skleróza)
