The nuclear power plant took my home away from me
František Šebesta was born on 15 May 1955 on a family farm in the South Bohemian village Březí, of which only two chapels remain nowadays. The family farm was one of the oldest in the village. In 1957, his parents joined the Unified Agricultural Cooperative (JZD). František trained as a bricklayer and worked for various employers. In the 1980s, the fate of his family was severely affected by the state-planned construction of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant. His native village stood in a two-kilometre protection zone around the power plant and was demolished, just like other villages around. He took many photos of the village before its demolition. He witnessed the demolition of his birth house, where generations of his ancestors lived. He cherishes the memorial plaque removed from the facade of the house. It commemorates his great-uncle, the legionary Jan, who died in 1918 at the Battle of Terron in France. In 2020, František Šebesta lived in Úsilný near České Budějovice.
